Read books on sex and sexuality

  • Come As You Are- Emily Nagoski
  • Come Together- Emily Nagosi
  • Trans Sex: A Guide for Adults by Kelvin Sparks
  • The Ultimate Guide to Sex and Disability: For All of Us Who Live with Disabilities, Chronic Pain, and Illness by Miriam Kaufman, Cory Silverberg, and Fran Odette

Buy sex toys

Sex toys like vibrators, dildos, cock rings, and many many more are all tools you can use on your own or with a partner to add to your sexual experience! People use sex toys for many reasons, like enhancing solo or partnered sex, achieving orgasm, or exploring their bodies. They can affirm gender identity for trans and nonbinary folks or assist people with disabilities in enjoying sexual activities more easily. Everyone’s needs are unique!

Sex toys can have medical uses for sexual dysfunction and are used for various reasons. Whether or not you use them is a personal choice—both are completely normal. Just remember to use them safely and clean them regularly!

Get on PrEP

Getting on PrEP gives you some extra peace of mind when having sex because it reduces your risk of contracting HIV from sex by about 99%. And it’s not just for gay men! It’s for anyone who is at risk of contracting HIV, including:
If you:

  • Inject drugs, have an injection partner with HIV, or share needles, syringes, or other equipment to inject drugs.
  • Have had anal or vaginal sex in the past 6 months.
  • have a sexual partner with HIV (especially if the partner has an unknown or detectable viral load).
  • have not consistently used a condom.
  • have been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection (STI)in the past 6 months.

Then you should be on PrEP.

If you need more reasons, we have them right here!

Use more lube.

  • Using lube during sex helps reduce friction, decreasing the chance of irritation or condom breakage, and making sex safer and more comfortable.
  • Use water- or silicone-based lube with latex condoms—oil-based products like lotion or Vaseline can cause tears in the condom. Stick to sexual lubricants labeled as condom-safe and check the packaging for guidance.

Consider DoxyPEP

The CDC says that taking doxycycline within 3 days after anal, oral, or vaginal/front hole sex can help reduce the chances of getting syphilis, chlamydia, and, in some studies, gonorrhea. This prevention method is also called doxy PEP.

Ask your clinician on your next visit to see if it’s right for you and your lifestyle.

Masturbate more.

Masturbation teaches us what we like in bed, but it also can:

  • Releasing sexual tension
  • Reducing stress
  • Improving sleep quality
  • Boosting self-esteem and body image
  • Helping treat sexual concerns
  • Relieving menstrual cramps and muscle tension
  • Strengthening pelvic and anal muscle tone

Get tested more regularly.

True sluts know their status, so here’s a guide to how often you need to get tested as a sexually active person.

STI testing for infections like HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis should happen at least annually. Higher-risk patients, or those with multiple partners and who have condomless sex. should be tested every 3-6 months. Patients on PrEP should have HIV testing every 3 months, you’ll likely be offered other STI testing at those visits. The CDC has further guidelines on STI screenings, feel free to visit their website to learn more.
